Yea Garden Expo

YEA GARDEN EXPO -- 23rd & 24th September 2017

After the outstanding success of our first Garden Expo last year we are working to ensure it becomes an annual event.  Great location, improved layout, quality stall holders and a broad range of plants are just the beginning.
Last year we had just under 1600 visitors to the Expo and this year we are aiming to exceed 2000 visitors.

Entry Price:

Adults $5.00

Children under 16 FREE

Venue and Parking

The Yea Racecourse provides an ideal venue for the expo as we have facility for circa 130 stallholders to display their products/services without feeling cramped and also have ample capacity for free parking. Parking is free.

Food and Drinks,

There will be a range of food and drink vendors on site. No alcohol drinks will be available.

Children are welcome and entry is free under 16 years,

Free face painting will be available on site

Security

Professional security for both Friday and Saturday nights will be on site.

Dogs

Dogs are welcome but must be on a short lead and kept under strict control.

About the Speakers 

Maria McCarter is owner of Sunset Valley Chicks and raises a extensive variety of pure bred chickens including Sussex,Silkies Game Fowl,Belgium Duccie and others. She will share her expertise on owning,raising and the care of your own chickens. At the end of each of her presentation there will be an auction for a pair of her best chickens.

Julie Weatherhead is an author ,environmental scientist and ecologist. Her book "Australian Native Food Harvest " won the 2017 National Gourmand Cookbook award for food heritage and is shortlisted for the International award to be announced later this year in China.She will provide practical advice on how to grow, harvest and use Australian native plants.

Anthony Hosemans is an author and grower of rare North American medicinal herbs.Anthony will speak about how many of these herbs which date back 2 & 3 centuries are now attracting medical interest as a potential alternative to modern anti-biotics. This will be a fascinating talk and he will also have a site from which his books and herbs can be purchased.

Graham Sargeant is a rose breeder of distinction and a consulting Rosarian. He has researched the most environmentally friendly methods of rose growing in a totally organic management program. The rose he bred "Gra's Blue" was awarded a bronze medal  and also the most highly fragrant rose in the 2015 Australian National Rose trials.An absolute leader in the knowlege of roses.

Steve Joblin is a beekeeper who will share his knowledge of the important role bees play within our gardens . He will also give pointers and guidance on how to maintain a hive ,extract the honey  and the do's and dont's of beekeeping. Steve spoke at our Expo last year and had the large audience enthralled.

Peter Madden is a horticulturist who has worked in nurseries,hard and soft landscape businesses,parks and gardens from tropical Cairns to alpine environments around Victoria on a variety of projects creating and maintaining bike trails, restoring and planting fragile habitats belonging to endangered species such as the mountain pygmy possum.He is currently the head gardener at the historic Delatite Station near Mansfield where he is bringing the old garden back to its former glory.
