Group Three Pruning Print

This group includes the viticella, texensis and herbaceous group as well as the late large flowering varieties. This group only flowers on new growth in late spring to summer.

Clematis HuldineGroup three is probably the easiest to prune. Just prune off to strong buds at between 30cm and 1mt from the ground in winter. Alternatively, if you have a group three clematis growing up a tree or bush, prune high to make sure the plant will grow to the outside of the host plant before it flowers. The tree will hide the clematis's bare lower stems.

Cut out any weak or dead growth and tidy up. Herbaceous varieties are cut off at the ground. Feed after pruning.

Caution! Do not cut into very old hard stems (> 3 years) as this will cause the plant to die back.
