Symptoms: Holes in the leaves, usually in the middle of the leaves. Shoots chewed off at base, bark missing on the stems.

Cause: Slugs and Snails

Description: Leaves can be covered in small to medium holes and can be high up on the plant. A tell tale sign of slugs and snails is the slime trail they leave behind and also it chewed parts have a ragged edge. Caterpillars leave a smooth edge. The culprits can hide in the foliage and sometimes are very hard to find. During spring the new shoots coming out of the base of the plant chewed off.
